It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when it’s your first time to host a play date. Not only will you be considering the kids, but their parents or guardians, too. But planning one shouldn’t be too hard – with just minimal effort, you’ll be able to host the best play date for your child and her friends!
Choose the right time and date
Every kid has a different nap time or snack time, so take this into consideration when choosing the time and date of the event. Late morning before lunch or late in the afternoon are ideal times. Better yet, ask the moms what the best time would be for their child and schedule a time that would accommodate everyone. Keep in mind that a regular play date lasts 1 1/2 to 2 hours tops only.
Limit the number of kids to invite
Since it would be your first time to host a play date, don’t invite all of the neighbourhood kids all at once. Try with a few moms and kids first (5 kids tops), preferably the ones your family is closest with. This way, you won’t feel pressured preparing and entertaining a lot of people and your child will ease into the idea of play dates without a problem. The event will also be a great opportunity to get to know the moms and kids better because the play date will be cozy.
Ask your guests to bring a toy
While you’ll be in charge of the snacks and entertainment, ask each kid invited to bring a toy or two of their own, especially if the kids are not the same ages (some may be infants, some may be toddlers). This is a great way for the little ones to learn about sharing and you’re sure that everyone has something to play with that they like.
